Gun Safety When Practicing With Speed Loaders
Reloading a revolver quickly with a speed loader takes practice and, the more you practice, the faster and more proficient your reloading will be.
Practicing With Real Bullets
When practicing reloading your revolver with live ammunition, always do so at a gun range or an area that you can safely and legally shoot your pistol – always observing gun safety rules.
Here are four common safety rules:
- Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
- Keep your finger off of the trigger and outside of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot.
- Never point a gun at anything you don’t intend to shoot.
- Know your target, what is beyond it, and what is around it.
Practicing With Dummy Bullets
Never use live ammunition to practice reloading a revolver in a home, office or any area where you would not normally shoot a firearm. Dummy training bullets are inexpensive and available at most gun stores as well as eBay and other online marketplaces. For realistic training, Zeta6 recommends using weighted, metal dummy rounds that will have the same feel and weight as real ammunition.
Safety rules for training outside of a gun range:
- Use only training rounds such as weighted dummy bullets.
- Remove all live ammunition from the room including what is in everyone’s pockets.
- Treat the revolver as if you were training with live ammunition.
- Keep your finger off of the trigger and outside of the trigger guard.
- Never point the revolver at anything you don’t intend shoot.
- Know your target, what is beyond it, and what is around it.
Remember that accidental firearms discharges are always unintentional. They are not planned. The person handling the weapon did not intend to fire it. It was accidental. Please avoid the risk of property damage, injury or death by using only dummy rounds when practicing anywhere that you are not prepared to fire live ammunition.
